Task 1; Visual Research & Google Docs presentation

We worked on this task 5/9, 12/9 & 19/9

Visit the current major exhibition of Roy Lichtenstein’s work in Chicago, USA online;

There are video’s and drawings that show the development of work.

1. follow the link in the Galleries & Museums tab;

A. select a theme
B. read about that theme & select some information that you feel is important
C. select and copy that text - paste it into the google doc you're going to create
D. select a painting that you like

2. Click on the painting, when it loads - right click and “save image as...” Save To Desktop

note: you may have to just right click the image to avoid large sizes - if you do this you can try just copying and pasting directly into your google doc when you create it
3. Create a new document in Google Docs
4. Title your document "9Dlb, YOUR NAME Pop Art"

5. In your document you've copied and pasted text and an image - if you haven't done this check with the teacher so you can catch up

6. Make sure your painting has details under it such as title, date, media, size, location - you can copy this from the image - see the example of the painting with details below.

7. Once you have this you're ready to make a comment about the text you've selected. Ask yourself "what about this text?" "What does it say that I feel is important?" explain this to your reader.
For example:

"In the late 1950s, Lichtenstein made an abrupt change in his painterly style. Earlier works owe a heavy debt to Cubism and were executed in a faux-naive realist style. By 1959 newly energetic brushwork, specifically in the mode of Abstract Expressionism."

This is telling us that Lichtenstein's style changed. As you can see from the painting "Untitled, 1959" below it appears completely unlike his early comic strip images and instead looks like an abstract painting.

Untitled, 1959
Oil on canvas
86.5 x 71.3 cm
Private Collection

8. Now you need to write about the painting itself. Describe the image, the colour, the style - how is it different or similar to other images and styles you are familiar with? What area in the image attracts your attention the most? Why?
